Atrium
Project description
A private gallery for estates, experienced in 3D
The Challenge
High-value property is sold on confidence, and a grid of photographs provides none of it. The buyer wants to know what the place is like to stand in, and by the time they can find out they have already travelled to a viewing.
3D on the web is expensive, and the cost lands on the people least able to absorb it — a phone on a slow connection. The scene had to be genuinely interactive without becoming a reason the page fails to load.
The Solution
An interactive three.js gallery in front of a conventional property application: PostgreSQL and Drizzle for the listings, Next.js for everything around them, and the 3D scene code-split so it arrives after the page does rather than blocking it. The rendering is treated as a feature of the listing, not the whole product.

The hard part
Making 3D cost what it is worth rather than everything. The scene has to be lazy, cancellable and absent when the device cannot handle it, and the listing has to be fully usable while it is still loading.
The Impact
Deployed and running with the interactive gallery and the property data model working together. It is a draft on this site because the write-up is still being finished, not because the work is unfinished — the deployment is public.
