Project description
A cinema-grade discovery experience for the films worth your evening
The Challenge
Finding something good to watch is harder than watching it. The recommendation surfaces people actually use are shaped by what a platform wants them to watch, and the result is a lot of time in menus and a lot of abandoned evenings.
Discovery only works if it feels like browsing rather than querying — which means the interface has to be fast on a phone and the imagery has to be excellent, since posters are the entire visual language of the domain.
The Solution
Build the browsing experience around curation and shelves rather than a search box: trending, watchlist and collections, with detail views carrying the information a person actually weighs — cast, runtime, rating, trailer. The data pipeline normalises external catalogue data into one internal shape so every surface renders the same film the same way.

The hard part
Making a catalogue of thousands feel hand-picked. The layouts are the product here, and the work is in what each shelf shows, in which order, and how little the interface says while still explaining itself.
The Impact
Deployed and running with trending, a watchlist and full detail views. A complete discovery product, built to be judged on how it feels to use rather than on what it does.
